D-line ropeway, a first in Russia, will be built at the Rosa Khutor Resort in Sochi in time for the 2019–2020 ski season, announced Austrian Doppelmayr’s press-service. As the announcement notes, «It will be the first lift of its kind in Russia». The press office explained that the cable car will be built on the southern slope of the Aibga mountain and will reach 2.2 thousand meters above sea level with a 600-meter altitude drop. The new ropeway will be 2 kilometers long and run parallel to the Edelweiss chair lift, which is currently in operation. «It will be the 30th lift at the resort with capacity of 2,4 thousand people per hour», — said company representative.
According to Doppelmayr Russia’s office, some one hundred experts will be involved in building the new lift, mostly Russians trained at the company’s office in Austria. «The new D-Line model is best suited for both urban and mountain tourism projects, featuring updated chairs, sheave assembly, detachable grip technology, and improved design and overall functionality. We plan to install several new lifts of this kind in Russia», explained Mr. M. Sinelnikov, the Director of the company’s branch in Russia.
