Rosa Khutor to hold the 2nd International Conference “Sustainable Tourism: Global Challenges and Discovering Russia”

The first conference, held in the fall of 2018, sparked a great deal of interest and drew the attention of the professional community worldwide, including managers of special protected natural areas, researchers, state authorities, business leaders, and environmentalists. For the first time, issues pertaining to the development of sustainable tourism were the subject of a high-level discussion with the participation of the world’s leading experts. In fact, the conference became the first platform for quality interaction and exchange between foreign and Russian experts passionate about the topic who understand sustainable tourism’s enormous potential and the need to make recreational use of Russia’s natural resources more structured and organized.

This year we strive to build on the success of the first conference and the activities that followed.

The second conferencewill focus on specific ways to grow sustainable tourism in different climates. Russia is a very large country, and every part of it is unique, which must inevitably be taken into account when launching tourism projects. We created five booths to represent various climate zones of Russia – the Arctic, the Russian North, the Temperate Zone, South and East — where Russian and foreign participants will be able to discuss issues, and share best practices and insights.

At the plenary session, Vyacheslav Fetisov, UN Goodwill Ambassador and a member of the State Duma, will talk about legislative initiatives that were developed with the participation of a large number of experts to ensure the sustainable development of nature-based tourism and recreational use of natural resources in Russia, taking into account the views of all stakeholders.

As has become a tradition, conference participants will be able to take tours to visit picturesque sights around Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana, and see for themselves the development of sustainable tourism in the area.
