Interros established the Rosa Khutor Company in 2003 to build a Russian mountain ski resort as part of the Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi, Ski-and-Beach Resort development. The resort building effort will call for an investment of $1.375 million. Interros has been working on this project since 2001. The project provides for building a sports and tourist complex that is unique for Russia, and will be open all year round. It will be built in compliance with the latest international standards, and combine a mountain ski resort and a beach resort. The resort’s capacity during the first phase of construction will be limited to 5,000 skiers per day, but will increase to 9,500 once the resort reaches its full capacity. The project provides for the construction of 18 ski lifts with total length of pistes amounting to 80 km. The pistes will be built along the natural slopes, and will run above the forest line, which would minimize the excavation and tree-cutting works. The Rosa Khutor Mountain Ski resort has been designed and will be built in compliance with Russian environmental laws and international environmental standards.
