Italian Local Authorities to Apologize to Vladimir Potanin for the Incident related to the Fake Purchase of the Villa in Italy
On Feb 2, Mr. Paolo Strescino, mayor of Imperia (Italy) handed an official letter to Russian Consul General Alexei Paramonov with apologies to Vladimir Potanin, President of Interros Company, for the incident, which had turned into an international scandal.
The story came up in January when the Italian news agency Ansa informed that Vladimir Potanin bought the Carpeneto villa near Porto Maurizio on Ligurian Riviera for 4.5 million euros ($6.4 million). Later, it was revealed that a group of fraudsters used the name of Vladimir Potanin and falsified the entire package of documents to participate in the auction to purchase the villa. The authorities in the city of Imperia said they are considering passing the matter to Italian prosecutors.
The Russian Consulate also intends to push Italian authorities for an investigation into the fraud.
