The university was established 10 years ago by the Interros Group of Vladimir Potanin together with the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation and the Russian Olympic Committee. Interros also acted as the sole sponsor of RIOU.
Nowadays, the University holds high positions in international rankings. According to the authoritative British publication SportBusiness International, The MSA program (“Master of Sports Administration”), took the 2nd place in Europe and 10th in the world in the international rating of postgraduate master's degree programs in sports management.

All copies have undergone a thorough restoration, and their authenticity has been proven by experts of the Central Olympic Museum in Lausanne. Collection management is entrusted to the Russian International Olympic University.
